Curriculum Vitae for Kate Garcia

‘Through my work, I aim to respond to the structure of today’s society, holding a convex mirror up to what is already there and highlight the distortions that it otherwise might take for granted. By this I mean the attitudes that we have towards people and things, because they don’t quite fit in with our point of view, get ignored or pigeonholed to suit our own agenda or beliefs.’

Commissions/ Paid work:

· Exclusive contract for book illustration by Kent-based author (2012)

· Full exterior wall tromp l’oeil/ mural for private family home in Dover (Ongoing)

· Series of person-centred murals for individuals with learning disabilities, in a number of Kent care establishments (Ongoing)

· Series of pen illustrations for London/ Kent based author (2008-9)

I am currently collaborating with a local improvisational fusion band to produce short films for their music.

Experience:

Further to the above work and exhibitions, I have plenty of experience in dealing with the public both face to face and via telephone/ email.

· Microsoft and Apple Mackintosh platforms, including the Office applications Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

· Adobe Photoshop, In Design & Bridge (CS4) and the editing suites iMovie ’08 and Final Cut Express 4.

Other skills include:

· Digital photography (including manipulation using the aforementioned software)

· I am responsible for the design and layout of exhibition posters and associated advertising for ‘Ten’ (Nov 2010), ‘The Associates ‘11’ and the ‘Henwood 8’ exhibition campaign for Summer 2012.

· Exhibition curation both on my own and within a team

· Critiquing

· Synopses for displayed work

· Research via printed word and internet

· Wooden frame making from scratch, oil painting and print work.

I have a great deal of experience with people from all walks of life and am not afraid to travel in order to fulfill a commission or contract.

About Me

Kate Garcia: Currently studying for my BA in Fine Art, I am working on a project which includes film/ photography, alongside sandstone to produce an installation of a looped film and variety of sculptures, looking at travel in terms of its flux and transience, the emotions and state of reverie that may be experienced as one traverses their world, real or imagined.
